Beyer Speed Figures Guide: Del Mar RacetrackBeyer Speed Figures are often overstated or understated. The following provides the handicapper with the results of a comparison of our own Speed Figures with that of the ubiquitous Beyer Speed Figures. Del Mar 9/2/09: Race 5: Moon O'er Cashel's 8/5/09 Beyer of 65 looks to be closer to a 70. Race 8: Royalty Gone Wild got a 58 in her debut on 8/5/09, but we think it is quite a bit higher, I would estimate at least a 65, possibly 70. Del Mar 9/3/09: Race 6: Olympio's Jewel's 5/15/09 Beyer looks to be way understated, by as much as 15 points. That may explain why he came back with a 79 next time. His last race he got a 60, but I think the 60 is the aberration, and is ready for a big effort. Del Mar 9/6/09: Race 10: Perfect Vintage. The 70 Beyer she was assigned on 2/15/09 should be closer to a 76. Of course she is coming off a layoff but at 15-1, she could outrun her odds if she is ready to go.
