Del Mar Race Track - July 19 2008 R2

Del Mar
Saturday, July 19, 2008 – Race 2

Harlene is a decent horse, but the horses he finished behind in the Alydar Stakes, such as Exuma and I think another horse in here can beat that one. Moreover, he is hovering around the 80 Beyer range and I think there are horses in here capable of running in the high 80’s at least. At 4-1ML, pass.

Raise the Heat’s numbers are pretty good, but he was beaten by Super Strut last out with no excuse. Stand against.

After calculating Muscle ‘n Mane’s GiftHorseRacing Speed Figure, I believe the 90 Beyer he received in his last might be a bit overstated. This horse I think is about an 87 Beyer type based on his last two (the average I think is right).

Super Strut’s 87 Beyer on the other hand is, I think understated by a couple lengths, and may be closer to 92-93. Furthermore, he has an outstanding trainer in Sadler and two consecutive bullet drills. This one should be ready to go. At 5/2 on the ML, he is the second favorite, but may be worth a play even at 8/5.

Lucky Honey is the 2-1 ML favorite, and I am not sure why other than he has the A+ connections in terms of both trainer and jockey, but I haven’t seen anything out of the low 80 Beyer range either on turf or synthetic surface. I simply haven’t seen the ability with this one yet. At 2-1ML, no thanks.

Echezeaux and Peachy Canyon are not worth discussing.
