Hollywood Park Race Track - May 24, 2008 R2The Alydar This appears to be a two horse race between Exuma and ML favorite Madeo. I watched the way Exuma went past Matty’s G Force in his last race as compared to the way Power Blitz went by Matty’s G Force two races back which was comparable. It is significant because Power Blitz was closing steadily on Madeo in his N1X Allowance win on 4/30. It is important to note that both Exuma and Madeo ran on 4/30, Exuma winning a 1 1/8th race and Madeo winning a 1 1/16th race. I do believe after watching the two that they are very evenly matched, but I think Madeo is actually a little better suited to a 1 mile to 1 1/16 miles, whereas Exuma is probably better suited to the 1 1/8th distance of today’s race. Madeo may very well have enough to hold on, and if Exuma doesn’t win, he will likely be coming at Madeo late. Madeo does have the better connections, of both jockey and trainer, and will likely get a perfect trip. Exuma will have to take his chances at the rail. Yet something tells me Exuma has more potential than Madeo. Trevor’s Clever was soundly beaten by Madeo last out. Pass. Jeff Mullins is entering Bingham and though his Speed Figures are a cut below, sometimes if they happen to love the synthetic surface, they can jump up and outrun their odds. His sire Monarchos is a solid synthetic sire though not outstanding. I’ll take my chances against. Harlene seems outmatched here and was no match for Power Blitz or Matty’s G Force in his race two back, both of whom finished close to Madeo and Exuma in their prior races. Pass. Pistol Pete Afleet has “pulled” in his last 5 races. If they can get him to relax he might have an outside shot, but even then it is doubtful. The horse that he beat on 2/1, Sassou, received a 78 Beyer in his prior race and a 76 in his next race, suggesting that he didn’t beat a horse that would finish near Madeo or Exuma. Stand against.
