Race 6 Pick (The Native Diver Handicap): Slew's Tizzy.

A couple of things should be noted about Slew’s Tizzy. First of all, he had two possible excuses for his poor showing in the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile. The first is that the opening quarter mile (22.24) and first half mile (45.02) were easily the fastest fractions of the meet. In fact Trevor Denman even noted at the half mile pole that they couldn’t be going any quicker. The first two finishers in the Dirt Mile were Albertus Maximus and Rebellion who were trailing the field early on, so the pace was more grueling than the frontrunners could have wanted. With the exception of Two Step Salsa, any horse that was near that blistering pace early, including Slew’s Tizzy, faded.

Secondly, the video replay shows that as they made their way around the first turn, Slew’s Tizzy was shuffled back just a bit – that on top of an already ridiculous pace couldn’t have helped him. He even was forced 8-wide into the stretch.

Slew’s Tizzy will likely be tracked by ML favorite Past the Point, but that one has impressed at Saratoga only. I have seen many horses who were heavy hitters on conventional dirt who didn’t run as the public expected when transferring to a synthetic track.

I am willing to give him another shot. He is 12-1 on the ML, and he has finished a good second to Giant Gizmo, who has won the Grade 3 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs, and the Grade 3 Lone Star Park Handicap. Doesn’t Slew’s Tizzy who was racing evenly with him earlier this year at Santa Anita Racetrack have a shot in the Grade 3 Native Diver?

Race 7 Pick: Onetimeatbandcamp. If you can excuse the one bad race last time, if he is near 8-1 ML he is good value. His GHR Numbers (excepting his last race) are about a length better than most of the favorites in this field, including Futuro and A Lil Dumaani. The one I am afraid of is Commandeered, and I do think that one can do it also, and would recommend a Commandeered over Onetimeatbandcamp straight exacta.
