April 19, 2008, race 6 - miss, though Polish Pete did outrun C R Caper as expected. Equibase comments say Bayngen Bartok "hopped bit, bumped start". I'll have to watch the replay again.

April 19, 2008, race 7 - miss

April 19, 2008, race 9 - The Santa Barbara Handicap - Hit Exacta Foxysox / Black Mamba. Black Mamba was really stuck in behind horses as they rounded the far turn. It appears she would've won over Foxysox with a cleaner trip, which Exacta was given out as well. A $1 Foxysox / Black Mamba Exacta paid $30.40

Overall a nice profit if you wagered in equal units for all bets given out.

April 20, 2008, race 9 - miss

April 27, 2008, race 9 - miss. The main play was River Glow and as predicted in the analysis, she was below her 8-1ML, going off at 4-1. Unfortunately, she got into a torrid speed duel with Silver Z. She did outduel Silver Z (also as predicted in the analysis) and as shown by the replay (although she dropped out to finish last eventually). They set an early quarter about 5 lengths faster than the norm for 7F and she couldn't withstand that. Long shot Spenditallbaby at 12-1 took this one.

April 30, 2008, race 7 - miss. However, with this there is some good news and some bad news.

First the good news - I hit a $3 trifecta on this race (or is that the bad news?). I generally don't give out trifectas because they are high risk bets.

Also please note a few important points. A look at the analysis for this race indicated all the horses that were identified as noncontenders finished neatly 5th-last place. The four that were identified in the contenders made up the superfecta box (the first four places). Madeo was noted as a contender but I felt I couldn't go around giving out too many exactas so I had to draw the line somewhere. Refer especially to the second paragraph of the contenders section in which it was noted that Tangled Tango's 6F time and Coast Guard's 9F time on 4/5/08 (SA Derby Day) were about equivalent. That is, a horse that ran the time Tangled Tango ran generally runs about the same 9F time as Coast Guard did when they stretch out. And they did in fact run a length apart today.

The bad news - I didn't give out a winning pick. But overall, I think the analysis was more correct than it was incorrect, sorry you didn't cash a ticket if you went only with my picks.

May 2, 2008 - Kentucky Oaks

The picks I gave out was based on the assumption that the race would be run over a dry fast track. Unfortunately, as we know the rain came pouring down during the day and resulted in a sloppy track. Golden Doc A given out as a win pick certainly outran her 9-1 odds finishing within 3/4 of a length of the more highly favored Pure Clan and Little Belle, despite being "under a steadying restraint on the first turn when close up and boxed in, continued in traffic to the second turn" according to the charts.

I do believe that Pure Clan who was also given as a pick is a better horse than Proud Spell and should defeat her over a dry track. Hopefully they will meet again under sunnier conditions.

May 4, 2008, race 7 - Hit the Exacta for Stand Tall over Roadside Rest which paid $17.40 on a $1 wager. Saxophone, who was given out as a win bet finished in a three way photo for second (finished 4th), and just two heads behind Roadside Rest, the 3/2 favorite, and this after steadying at the 5/16ths pole. This trio was 5 lengths behind the winner Stand Tall but he certainly outran his 11-1 odds.

May 7, 2008, race 5 - The horse that I used in all 5 picks given out (1 win and 4 exacta), All Man, finished a close second to the winner Tropic Storm. All Man went off at 8-1 and Tropic Storm went off at 1-2. The charts say that All Man was in "bit tight 1/16, 2nd best".

After watching the replay it is clear he was coming after Tropic Storm fast and had his momentum impeded near the 1/16 pole. The 1 1/4 lengths he lost by would've been closer had he got a clean run. I am not sure he would've won, but he might have narrowly got the job done. At any rate it would've been very very close. All Man certainly outran his odds at 8-1 compared to the 1-2 favorite. Why I didn't play Tropic Storm over All Man is something I am still trying to figure out.

May 9, 2008, race 7 - Miss. Unusual Jail sat well off an average pace for the distance, and made an even run to the wire, but didn't have enough.

May 10, 2008, race 1 - Miss. The winner South Bay Scotty was given out as a contender, but not as a bet. Half of my South Bay Scotty, Victorio exacta came in, but unfortunately Victorio faded after pressing a solid pace.

May 11, 2008, race 8 - Million Dollar Run upset the Railbird field at 15-1 (from 30-1 on the ML). Some long shots you can rationalize in retrospect, but this is one of those ones thats hard to see even in retrospect. This horse came off a second place finish in a Maiden Special Weight with a 74 Beyer. Tasha's Miracle ran well to be second who I liked alot. Lethal Heat stumbled at the start and lost by 5 lengths. We will have to excuse this effort.

May 14, 2008, race 1 - The horse that was my lone pick and value play, Tap it Light lost a heartbreaker by a nose to Dawn's Early Sky. That's racing. Tap it Light was 7-1 at post time as compared to even money favorite Gallardo, who finished third. To be fair, Gallardo did stumble at the start, and might have got there but from the replay its not absolutely clear.

May 14, 2008, race 4 - Miss. Suggested win bet Eddie Munsta finished 5th.

May 17, 2008, Preakness Stakes - Hit the exacta of Big Brown/ Macho Again which paid $18.30 on a $1 bet. Macho Again was 40-1 at post time. My other exactas of Big Brown over Gayego and Kentucky Bear didn't work out obviously. Kentucky Bear finished 6th after stumbling at the start and checking at the 3/16 pole. Gayego simply faded and had no apparent excuse.

As noted in the analysis, the value lay hidden in the exacta not the win. $18.30 returned of a $1 investment is alot nicer than .20 cents isn't it?

May 18, 2008, race 2 - Miss. 3/2 In Daddys Honor lost by neck.

May 21, 2008, race 4 - Miss. No excuse.

May 24, 2008, race 2 - Miss. Longshot Trevor's Clever at 17-1 messed up my exacta.

May 25, 2008, race 8 - Miss.

May 29, 2008, race 4 - Miss.

June 13, 2008, race 7 - Miss. My place selection on Barber at 10-1 got third place, and was good value. The video shows he was sent through at the rail from post 1, but somehow Solis lost position and got shuffled back, then was near the back of the pack, angled out to center in the stretch and came running at the end, to outfinish 3-1 Sailors Sunset by almost 3 lengths, and 4-1 Northern Soldier by almost 5 lengths. I think this was a very good pick, just didn't have the racing luck. In fact, he might've been the winner with a perfectly clean trip. On a bit of a bad luck streak.

June 15, 2008, race 8 - Hit. Two Step Salsa an easy winner by 3 3/4 lengths at even money. Nice.

June 18, 2008, race 1 - Hit the win with La Mandonna as well as the Exacta La Mandonna over Jazzerin. Well done.

June 21, 2008, race 7 - Hit. I Beat the Fire wins easily by over 2 lengths at almost 8-1. Good job Matt!

June 26, 2008, race 3 - Hit. Informed wins by 8 1/4 lengths at even money. Somebody stop me!

July 2, 2008, race 4 - Miss. Loss of Credibility. He finished last.

July 5, 2008, race 8 - Hit. Tizsweetdreams wins easily by 4 3/4 at 2-1. Barbara's Love is nosed out of the exacta I gave out at literally the last jump. Missed it by that much!

July 6, 2008, race 3 - Miss. No excuse.

July 9, 2008, race 1 - Miss. Exacta in the wrong order

July 10, 2008, race 1 - Hit the Win and the Exacta. Proud Garrison bet down to 5/2 off the 4-1 ML. Havens Lake clear second.

July 12, 2008, race 3 - Hit. Wiredfortwotwenty was much the best.

July 12, 2008, race 8 (The Swaps) - Miss. Much like the Alydar Stakes, a longshot upset my exacta.

July 13, 2008, race 8 - Miss. No excuse.

July 16, 2008, race 1 - Miss. Coronados Pride dueled with Win to Win, both tired. Joe Talamo on Win to Win got into a ridiculous duel with Coronados Pride, opening up 12 lengths on the field at one point, only to duel themselves into defeat. Smokin Joe my arse. I say you only get to have a cool nickname if you are actually good. Victor, Alex, Rafael would never let that happen to a mount they were riding.

Ya think I ought to put the most recent results at the TOP of the page??
