Kentucky Derby Results: Super Saver Gives Calvin Borel Third Derby in Four Years!
2010 Kentucky Derby Results By Profitus Maximus It seemed that no one had a clue about any of these horses as they went postward in the 2010 Kentucky Derby. The shortest price in the field was Lookin at Lucky who was sent off at 6-1 odds. Conveyance led the Derby field into the far turn but soon was out of gas. After overcoming a disastrous start in which the favorite was shuffled back, and then squeezed in toward the rail, he never stood a chance to recover. This left the race wide open for another horse to make history, and that horse was Super Saver, who was the second betting choice at 8-1, no doubt made so on the strength of jockey Calvin Borel who has now won three out of the last four Kentucky Derbies. Super Saver was never farther back than sixth place, and much like he did on Street Sense in 2007 and Mine That Bird in 2009, he kept Super Saver at the rail the whole time, except at the top of the stretch, when he was forced to go around one horse. He struck the lead by the three-sixteenth pole, and never looked back. Ice Box made a bold late rally to get up for third over Paddy O' Prado, but he ran out of ground, and never threatened the winner. The filly Devil May Care made a nice rally around the far turn, but she flattened out. Super Saver completed the 1 1/4 miles in 2:04.45 over a sloppy track and paid $18.80.
