Stardom Bound Makes Successful Three-Year Old Debut in Las Virgenes Stakes

Two-Year-Old Juvenile Female Champion Stardom Bound won the Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday after overcoming a bit of traffic trouble to win her three-year-old debut.
The three-year old daughter of Tapit quickly dropped back to trail the field within the first eight of a mile. Nearing half-mile pole, she began to move up down at the rail past the backmarkers, but had to wait for running room nearing the quarter pole though she was full of run.
Turning into the stretch she was hooked 4-wide and only needed room to run before her class prevailed and began to draw clear of the field by the sixteenth pole. The heavy 2-5 favorite crossed the wire 1 ¼-lengths in front of runner up Haka, who came flying at the end under Rafael Bejarano and is one to watch.
The final time was a solid 136.43 for the one mile race. Her connections are considering a showdown with the boys in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 4, although trainer Bobby Frankel also made it clear that it was not the definite plan.
