Conveyance Wins San Rafael Stakes at 1/5 Odds
January 16, 2010 By Profitus Maximus Conveyance Wins San Rafael Stakes at 1/5 Odds Conveyance sent off at 1/5 odds, popped out of the gate, was ahead of the field at the start, ahead of them at the wire.
Nearing the far turn he momentarily lost the lead to Cardiff Giant who snuck by him at the rail and poked a head in front. Conveyance, however, immediately responded under Garret Gomez and the two battled head and head until mid-stretch when Cardiff Giant gradually gave way and ended up finishing strongly enough to hold off Domonation for the place.
Trainer Bob Baffert remarked afterwards that he would have preferred it if Gomez had not allowed Cardiff Giant to sneak through at the rail, but perhaps Gomez had that much confidence in his mount.
The final time on the Pro-Ride surface was 1:36.45. Conveyancecame home his final 1/8 of a mile in a solid 12.22 seconds. Conveyancedefeated Cardiff Giant by 1 ¾ lengths, though his heavy 1/5 odds might have suggested the betting public thought he would win by just a little more than that. Nevertheless, the gray son of Indian Charlie is now undefeated in three starts and looks like a nice early 2010 Kentucky Derby prospect.
